SCADA Engineer

About the role

The SCADA Engineer will design, commission and maintain SCADA systems for utility‑scale solar PV plants, ensuring high data accuracy, availability and functional performance. Working closely with the commissioning team and senior engineers, you will support the delivery of clean‑energy projects across South Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Design physical and logical network architecture for solar PV power plants.
• Configure and maintain Software‑Defined Networking (SDN) in industrial control environments.
• Develop signal and IP lists and integrate devices into the SCADA network.
• Lead Eskom signalling compliance tests and assist with commissioning plans.
• Build, optimise and maintain SCADA/HMI platforms using Ignition (Inductive Automation).
• Establish DevOps practices for SCADA deployment, including version control, automated testing and containerisation.
• Architect and manage time‑series databases for plant data.
• Author coding manuals, scripting guidelines and standard operating procedures.
• Create network/logic drawings, signal schematics and functional testing procedures.
• Collaborate with vendors, service providers and internal teams to ensure system reliability.

Required profile

• Proven experience in SCADA design and commissioning for utility solar PV projects.
• Ability to work with multidisciplinary commissioning teams and adhere to safety regulations and standards.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills applied to industrial communication protocols.

Required skills

• Ignition (Inductive Automation) SCADA platform.
• Software‑Defined Networking (SDN) and industrial control systems (ICS).
• RTU and HMI development.
• Time‑Series database management.
• SCADA and industrial communication protocols.
• Version control, automated testing and containerisation (e.g., Git, Docker).
• Network architecture and logic drawing creation.
• Signal and IP list development.
