Sanitation Manager – Wastewater Treatment

About the role

Eco Tanks is seeking a Sanitation Manager to operate and optimise modular wastewater treatment plants across South Africa and the wider Southern African region. You will ensure plants deliver reliable, compliant water treatment for residential, commercial, industrial, hospitality, healthcare and education clients.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and maintain wastewater treatment plants, performing routine inspections and performance assessments.
• Optimise biological processes such as MBBR, SBR and MBR technologies.
• Troubleshoot and resolve operational and process‑related issues.
• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment.
• Commission new plants and provide technical support during start‑up phases.
• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and maintain operational records, maintenance reports and compliance documentation.
• Monitor water quality to guarantee treated effluent meets discharge standards.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and regulatory authorities as needed.
• Promote a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety policies.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Degree in Civil, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Water Care, Environmental Science or related field (advantageous).
• Relevant trade qualification or technical certification in mechanical, electrical or instrumentation disciplines (considered).
• Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) certification or similar accreditation (advantageous).
• Valid Code B driver’s licence.
• 3–5 years of experience in wastewater treatment operations, maintenance or management.
