Risk Management Committee Chairperson (3-year term)

About the role

The MetSimaholo Local Municipality is seeking a qualified individual to chair its Risk Management Committee for a three‑year term. The chairperson will provide strategic oversight of risk management activities across the municipality and ensure alignment with public‑sector risk frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Chair the Risk Management Committee and monitor implementation of risk management within all departments.
• Review and update risk policies, strategies, and related procedures.
• Oversee risk‑management action plans and ensure compliance with established plans.
• Integrate risk management into planning, monitoring and reporting processes.
• Advise on setting risk appetite and review tolerance levels.
• Report quarterly to the Municipal Manager and other oversight committees.
• Implement a risk maturity model for the municipality.

Required profile

• Integrity, independence, dedication and a solid understanding of public‑sector business and controls.
• Good knowledge of the Risk Management model and the Public Sector Risk Management Framework.
• Familiarity with Act and Treasury Regulations, EWRM and COSO frameworks.

Required skills

• Relevant qualification such as CA, MBA, ML, CIA or a degree in Law, Accounting, Risk Management, Audit, Business or Financial Management.
• Knowledge of COSO, EWRM and Treasury regulations.

• Remuneration in line with National Treasury guidelines, including a travelling allowance.
• A three‑year term with the possibility of renewal at the municipality’s discretion.
• Quarterly Risk Management Committee meetings and attendance at four quarterly Audit Committee meetings.
