Resident Engineer – Civil Construction

About the role

Zutari is seeking experienced Resident Engineers to manage contracts and supervise construction on SANRAL road projects in South Africa. The role involves on‑site supervision, progress reporting and ensuring compliance with specifications, standards and safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all construction and installation activities on site, monitoring contractor progress and quality.
• Prepare technical input for progress reports, measurements and updates on work completed.
• Review equipment, staff performance and work methods to prevent delays and quality issues.
• Manage commercial matters: contractor invoices, non‑conformance reports, site instructions, variations and claims.
• Ensure all work, laboratory tests and designs meet specifications, codes, standards and HSE regulations.
• Maintain accurate records, support the Contracts Engineer and client, and apply ISO 9001 QMS on site.

Required profile

• BSc/BEng/BTech in Civil Engineering with PR Eng or PR Tech registration (ECSA); PR CMP registration is an advantage.
• Minimum 10 years of construction/project site supervision experience, including work as Engineer’s Representative on SANRAL projects.
• Strong knowledge of specifications, Bill of Quantities (COLTO/COTO, SANS 1200) and contract conditions (FIDIC 1999, NEC 3/4, GCC 2010/2015, JBCC).

Required skills

• Proficient Microsoft Office suite.
• In‑depth understanding of civil engineering specifications, BOQ preparation and contract administration.
• Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and client‑relation abilities.
