Rescue Technician – Ambulance Emergency Assistant

About the role

The Rescue Technician – Ambulance Emergency Assistant will respond to emergency calls, deliver medical care within the defined scope of practice, and provide access rescue services as required. This position supports the ER24 Vaal emergency response team in Vaalpark, South Africa, ensuring rapid, professional assistance to patients and clients.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain operational readiness for all emergency calls.
• Perform basic access rescue operations.
• Administer patient care in accordance with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) scope of practice.
• Deliver professional emergency services and maintain client relationships.

Required profile

• Essential education: ILS qualification.
• Desired education: Advanced Certificate in Rescue and completion of Clinical Practice Guidelines training (or willingness to complete during probation).
• Essential experience: Minimum 3 years of ILS experience with verifiable rescue experience.
• Desired experience: 5 years of ILS experience.

Required skills

• Knowledge of client rules and regulations and relevant legislative requirements.
• Computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of EMS and rescue environment, including Hazmat awareness.
• Familiarity with HPCSA guidelines, patient report forms, and demographical area travel routes.
• Proficiency in written and verbal English.
