Remote Full-Time Bookkeeper (UK)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced UK Bookkeeper to join a fast‑growing, AI‑driven business on a full‑time contractor basis. The role is fully remote and involves taking ownership of day‑to‑day financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance across multiple client engagements.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate bookkeeping records across multiple accounts and entities.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations.
• Manage accounts payable and expense processing.
• Support accounts receivable activities and payment tracking.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements and UK accounting standards.
• Support Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies and financial queries.
• Maintain audit‑ready financial records and documentation.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Liaise with external accountants and finance stakeholders as required.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping experience supporting UK‑based businesses.
• Strong working knowledge of UK accounting and bookkeeping principles.
• Detail‑oriented, able to work under pressure and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Self‑motivated with a proactive, hands‑on approach.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of UK accounting and bookkeeping principles.
• Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns and complying with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
• Proficiency in managing accounts payable, accounts receivable and month‑end close processes.
