Relief Blood Bank Technologist

About the role

We are seeking a Relief Blood Bank Technologist to join our team in Bloemfontein. The role provides temporary support for routine blood bank testing, ensuring safe transfusion services.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine compatibility testing, post‑natal investigations and preliminary transfusion reaction analyses.
• Verify and cross‑check results generated by Registered Blood Bank Technicians, Trainee Technicians and Student Technologists.
• Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment according to quality and risk standards.
• Support customer relations and respond to queries from clinical staff.
• Work overtime, night shifts and weekends as rostered and travel locally or nationally when required.

Required profile

• HPCSA‑registered Medical Technologist (Blood Transfusion) with the qualifications needed for registration.
• Good physical health, endurance, mobility and normal colour vision; detail‑oriented with strong visual acuity.
• Analytical thinking, problem‑solving, sound judgement and ethical behaviour.
• Flexibility, adaptability and a strong belief in the mission of the blood service.
