About the role

The Rehabilitation & Waste Dumps Engineer will develop and manage designs for waste dump facilities and rehabilitation areas, ensuring compliance with statutory and corporate environmental requirements. This role supports safe operations and contributes to the sustainable re‑use of disturbed land within Kumba Iron Ore’s mining activities.

Key responsibilities

• Support a safe and healthy work environment for staff and contractors.
• Develop comprehensive designs for waste dumps and rehabilitation zones, integrating geological, geotechnical, and environmental considerations.
• Oversee construction and ongoing management of waste dump facilities, applying best practices for stability and monitoring.
• Create and implement rehabilitation plans that restore landscapes, considering biodiversity, soil stability, and water management.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant regulations, corporate policies, and environmental standards.
• Conduct environmental impact assessments and propose mitigation measures.
• Perform geotechnical analyses such as slope stability, settlement, and seepage assessments.
• Design drainage and erosion control systems to manage runoff and protect surrounding environments.
• Collaborate with environmental agencies, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders.
