Registered Nurse: Trauma Unit X2

About the role

The Trauma Unit seeks two Registered Nurses to deliver high‑quality patient care in line with South African Nursing Council standards. The role involves collaborating with doctors and multidisciplinary teams, supervising allocated staff, and providing holistic support to patients and their families in a private hospital setting.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all duties in accordance with SANC, Department of Health and National Core Standards.
• Supervise, organise and lead the nursing team to ensure efficient task completion.
• Provide round‑the‑clock care to premature and severely ill newborns when required.
• Stay up‑to‑date with therapeutic developments, equipment and emergency department protocols.
• Assure quality of care by measuring outcomes against standards and recommending improvements.
• Participate in internal and external audits (DOH, SANC, SHERQ, risk audits).
• Document patient care accurately, update care plans and maintain medication and incident records.
• Conduct structured ward rounds with doctors to create and evaluate customised care plans.
• Monitor nursing activities for compliance with safety, security and SANC requirements.
• Drive reduction of healthcare‑associated infections and actively participate in resuscitations.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in General Nursing.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council.
• Minimum three years experience in a casualty/trauma unit.
• BLS qualification; ACLS, PALS and ATLS certifications are advantageous.
• Previous experience in a private hospital environment is beneficial.
• Computer proficiency is advantageous.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
• Computer proficiency for clinical documentation.
