Registered Nurse – Trauma (Theatre)

About the role

A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse (Theatre Experienced) based at Life Flora Hospital, reporting to the Theatre Manager. The successful candidate will assist the surgical team, ensure optimal patient care and support the hospital’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team during procedures and ensure optimal patient care.
• Manage theatre clocking time and accurate charging for financial control.
• Control consignment stock, equipment and prosthesis in line with hospital policy.
• Educate and supervise staff on correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation.
• Obtain pre‑operative information, visit patients post‑operatively and ensure comfort.
• Provide theatre‑specific training, assess staff competence and monitor normal/overtime hours.
• Ensure compliance with personal protective equipment, ISO standards and proper medical waste disposal.
• Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and report unresolved issues.

Required profile

• General Nursing Degree or Diploma with a Midwifery qualification.
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Theatre experience, preferably in Cathlab.
• Willingness to be on standby and respond to emergency call‑outs within 30 minutes.
• Own transport or ability to reach the hospital quickly.
• Understanding of the private healthcare industry is an advantage.

Required skills

• Theatre experience (Cathlab).
• Midwifery qualification.
• Registration with SANC.
• Computer proficiency.
