Registered Nurse – Medical ICU (Permanent)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join a busy Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. This permanent position offers the chance to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care to critically ill patients within a leading private healthcare network.

Key responsibilities

• Provide holistic nursing care to patients in the MICU, adhering to clinical protocols and infection‑prevention standards.
• Monitor, assess, and manage patient conditions, including medication administration and documentation.
• Collaborate with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, and case management to coordinate patient care.
• Supervise, mentor, and support junior nursing staff as needed.
• Maintain and operate specialised ICU equipment, ensuring proper utilisation and upkeep.
• Manage stock and clinical resources efficiently.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives and continuous professional development.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification (Degree or Diploma) with active registration on the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Proven experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU/MICU) setting.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical‑care decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage shifting priorities, and adapt to flexible schedules, including on‑call duties.
