Registered Nurse – ICU (Critical Care)

About the role

Life Fourways Hospital is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to join its Intensive Care Unit. Reporting to the ICU Unit Manager, you will deliver holistic, high‑quality nursing care to critically ill patients, ensuring optimal outcomes in line with hospital objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide basic and specialised nursing care to ICU patients.
• Communicate continuously with patients and families about condition and progress.
• Administer medication according to ethical and legal standards.
• Maintain compliance with internal policies, protocols and quality management systems.
• Advocate for patients, coordinate with case management and notify doctors of any concerns.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and support staff training and development.
• Manage ICU stock, staff hours and leave in line with company policies.
• Ensure infection control and SHEQ standards are met, reporting incidents as required.
• Conduct equipment checks daily and liaise with clinical engineers on any faults.
• Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with legal requirements.

Required profile

• Relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
• Post‑basic qualification in Critical Care.
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a critical‑care qualified nurse.
• Minimum of 2 years ICU nursing experience.
• Strong customer orientation, teamwork and communication skills.
