R&D Quality Technologist

About the role

The R&D Quality Technologist will ensure that all research and development activities at Lupo Bakery meet rigorous quality, safety and nutritional standards. Working closely with the R&D Quality Officer and Technical Manager, the role supports the creation of new bakery products and maintains compliance with food safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise quality controllers and enforce quality process controls.
• Monitor production processes to guarantee product specifications align with R&D guidelines.
• Control process parameters such as visual charts and metal detectors.
• Collaborate with the R&D Quality Officer and Technical Manager to resolve customer complaints and conduct complaint trending.
• Assist in costings for new R&D projects and support the development of new bakery products.
• Ensure compliance with FSSC 22000 and other food safety requirements.
• Provide training on product specifications and participate in audit preparation.
• Prepare product specifications, packaging labels and related documentation.
• Conduct factory trials for new products and offer online technical support to manufacturing teams.

Required profile

• Matric qualification.
• Degree or diploma in Food Technology, Food Science or a related field.
• 2‑3 years of experience in food or bakery production, preferably in an R&D quality role.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with staff at all levels.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and project‑management abilities.
• Ability to meet deadlines, adapt to changing requirements and follow instructions.

Required skills

• FSSC 22000 food safety standard knowledge.
• Operation of metal detectors and visual chart monitoring.
• Process control techniques for bakery production.
• Understanding of product specifications and labeling requirements.
