Operations Manager

About the role

Our client, a well‑established chemical manufacturing company, is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to lead the Johannesburg branch. The role focuses on driving operational efficiency, financial performance and business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage overall branch operations across multiple departments.
• Oversee budgets, forecasting, expenditure, debtors and profitability.
• Handle monthly billing, invoicing, claims and project costing.
• Direct warehouse operations, inventory and stock control.
• Ensure compliance with client and supplier service‑level agreements.
• Maintain client relationships, service delivery and complaint handling.
• Supervise HR functions, staff performance, training, absenteeism and industrial relations.
• Manage health & safety, risk management and legal compliance.
• Support quotations, sales initiatives and business development.
• Monitor supplier performance and SLA adherence.
• Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiencies.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly management reports.
• Assist with internal, external, ISO, SHE and customer audits.
• Maintain all operational licences, permits and compliance requirements.

Required profile

• Matric/Grade 12 and a degree in Business, Operations Management or related field.
• Proven experience as an Operations Manager or senior management role.
• Strong background in operations, warehouse, staff and financial management.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting and inventory management.
• Commercial and financial acumen with customer relationship management exposure.
• Sales and business development experience, including project costing.
• Leadership, planning, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and report‑writing skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Valid, unendorsed Code 08 driver’s licence.
• Experience in the chemical manufacturing industry is highly advantageous.
• Knowledge of Syspro and Pastel is a plus.
