Public Health Officer - International Cruise Ship

About the role

Portside Consulting recruits for international cruise lines and is looking for a Public Health Officer to maintain the highest standards of public health, sanitation and hygiene compliance across all departments of an international cruise ship. The role covers inspections, audits, crew training and oversight of food safety, water quality, pest management, disease prevention, waste management and HVAC monitoring.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain public health, sanitation and hygiene compliance across all departments of the ship
• Conduct regular inspections and internal audits, and train the crew
• Ensure full compliance with USPH/VSP regulations and company standards
• Oversee food safety, potable and recreational water quality, pest management, communicable disease prevention, waste management and HVAC monitoring

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in Public Health, Environmental Health, Healthcare Management or Occupational Health & Safety
• Shipboard experience in a Public Health Officer role (essential)
• Advanced knowledge of international public health regulations (VSP, SHIPSAN, ANVISA, PHAC, WHO)
• Relevant certification in HACCP, Water Safety, Pest Management and Infection Prevention
• Strong spoken and written English
• Grade 12 or equivalent secondary education and a valid passport
• Preferred: university degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Biological Sciences or a related field, cruise vessel experience of 50,000 GT or larger, USPH VSP or SHIPSAN certification, and experience with SeaCare or similar onboard electronic healthcare record platforms
