Property Caretaker

About the role

A full-time, on-site Property Caretaker is needed in Kyalami to support the maintenance, upkeep and safe operation of the facilities. The role covers overseeing building and facility condition, handling routine and minor maintenance issues, and coordinating contractors for cleaning, security, gardening and specialist maintenance. It suits a dependable person who can work independently and respond to urgent matters, including after-hours call-outs.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out minor repairs to buildings and equipment, including plumbing, electrical and general maintenance.
• Investigate maintenance complaints from all sites, follow up on damage reports and resolve problems.
• Keep heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and other mechanical systems properly maintained, operated and upgraded.
• Obtain quotations and manage the acquisition, approval and purchase of services and goods.
• Assist in selecting contractors and service providers, and manage their service levels and relationships.
• Assist with accounting aspects of maintenance within the allocated budget, and help plan annual resource allocation.
• Handle maintenance-related administrative tasks and coordinate special projects as required.
• Support OHS requirements, including servicing fire extinguishers and responding to hazards identified by OHS representatives.

Required profile

• Grade 12; a relevant technical or facilities qualification is advantageous.
• At least 5 years' experience in a caretaking, facilities or maintenance environment.
• Practical understanding of building maintenance and basic mechanical and electrical systems.
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements (OHASA).
• Willingness to live on site as part of a couple and be available for standby and call-outs.
