Project Engineer – Mechanical

About the role

Mia Nel Associates is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join its corporate projects team. The role will support the delivery of multiple capital projects, focusing on mechanical engineering scope, and ensuring safe, on‑time, and on‑budget execution.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering studies from concept through commissioning and handover.
• Develop and manage design packages including equipment specs, piping and valve specs, datasheets, GA drawings, isometrics and layouts.
• Coordinate with Process, Electrical, C&I and Civil disciplines for integrated design delivery.
• Prepare mechanical scopes of work, schedules, budgets, execution strategies and resource plans.
• Conduct design verification, calculations, simulations and peer reviews to ensure compliance with ASME, API, ISO and SANS standards.
• Manage procurement activities, bid reviews, vendor selection and documentation.
• Oversee installation, fabrication, inspection, testing and commissioning activities.
• Participate in HAZOP, HAZCON, constructability reviews and mechanical risk assessments.
• Control engineering changes, document control and standardise methodologies.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Proven experience delivering capital projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical codes and standards (ASME, API, ISO, SANS).
• Ability to manage budgets, schedules and multidisciplinary teams.
