Professor of Fourth Industrial Revolution

About the role

The University of Johannesburg seeks a senior academic leader to drive teaching, research and community engagement in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). The role combines classroom instruction, scholarly activity and strategic departmental leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, coordinate and assess large postgraduate classes, and provide academic support across 4IR modules.
• Develop and maintain curricula, ensuring effective delivery and alignment with departmental goals.
• Conduct high‑impact research, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, and contribute to the university’s research agenda.
• Lead outreach initiatives, engage with industry and community partners, and support accreditation processes.
• Manage administrative duties such as programme marketing, preparation for accreditation, and maintenance of teaching portfolios.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in a discipline related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
• 8‑10 years of accredited scholarly research with national recognition and a strong publication record.
• 10‑15 years of excellence in teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including online delivery.
• 8‑10 years supervising Master’s and Doctoral candidates, with experience in online supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to departmental strategy and community engagement.
