Professor of AI & Health – Faculty of Health Sciences

About the role

The University of Johannesburg seeks a senior academic leader to drive the integration of Artificial Intelligence within Health Sciences. The Professor will teach, supervise research and shape the AI & Health strategy for the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses on AI, machine learning and their applications in health.
• Conduct high‑impact, multidisciplinary research at the intersection of AI and health sciences.
• Supervise postgraduate theses and mentor junior researchers.
• Develop and review curricula to reflect emerging AI technologies.
• Lead national research projects and foster collaborations with industry and international partners.
• Secure external research funding and publish in high‑impact journals.
• Engage with community and professional bodies to promote AI‑driven health solutions.

Required profile

• Established academic with a strong record of research in AI and health sciences.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching and curriculum development at university level.
• Proven ability to obtain research grants and lead collaborative projects.
• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to community engagement.
