Professional Nurse – Surgical Unit

About the role

The Professional Nurse in the Surgical Unit will work alongside a multi‑professional team to provide safe, comprehensive, and high‑quality nursing care. This role focuses on delivering patient‑centred care throughout the surgical pathway, ensuring safety and a positive experience for every client.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver quality nursing care in collaboration with a multi‑professional team.
• Identify, prevent, and manage risks to ensure patient safety.
• Facilitate a positive client experience by creating a conducive environment.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing interventions.
• Support staff development and create a learning environment that builds competence.
• Ensure all stock and equipment are accurately charted and managed.

Required profile

• Diploma leading to registration as a General Nurse, a 4‑year Nursing Diploma, or a Bachelor of Nursing.
• Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Midwifery or Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (e.g., Critical Care, Emergency Care, Peri‑operative Nursing) for specialist units – desirable.
• No minimum experience required.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support training (ACLS, ATLS, PALS) for specialised wards.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to develop and modify nursing care plans.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control, nursing processes, record keeping, patient assessment, pharmacology, relevant legislation, risk identification, and scientific nursing principles.
