Production Manager - Berry Farm

About the role

A progressive, quality-driven berry production business in Vaalwater is looking for an experienced Production Manager to lead and optimise its farm operations. As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee daily agricultural activities, manage teams and ensure high-quality production in line with strategic objectives. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced farming environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and supervise farming activities such as planting, pruning, harvesting, fertigation and pest and disease control
• Monitor crop health through soil and leaf analysis and ensure production targets and quality standards are met
• Oversee maintenance of production areas and equipment, and coordinate with technical, engineering and maintenance teams
• Assist with production budgeting and cost control, monitor performance and report on financial trends and variances
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
• Lead senior team leaders and operational staff, coach and mentor them, plan the workforce and enforce safety, policy and compliance standards
• Maintain accurate production records and reports, and ensure compliance with standards such as Global G.A.P. and SIZA

Required profile

• Grade 12 (essential)
• Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Horticulture or a related field (preferred)
• 3-5 years of farm management experience, ideally in a commercial farming environment
• Full crop production cycle experience; berry or fruit production experience highly advantageous
• Good agricultural practice (GAP) knowledge and basic financial management and budgeting skills
• Working knowledge of HR legislation relevant to farming
