Environmental Assessment Practitioner (Env Impact Mgmt)

About the role

The City of Ekurhuleni is recruiting a full-time Environmental Assessment Practitioner to protect and conserve the environment and its natural resources within the council's area of responsibility. The role covers environmental assessments, compliance with environmental legislation and liaison with applicants and consultants.

Key responsibilities

• Protect and conserve the environment and its natural resources through environmental assessment practices.
• Ensure compliance of council departments with applicable environmental legislation and advise on required environmental authorisations, permits and licences.
• Review, interpret and comment on development proposals such as land use applications, EIA applications, waste and water use licences and mining permits.
• Check the Environmental GIS for development constraints, sensitive areas and other comments, and review applications against council policies (EMF, EBOSS, Bioregional Plan, SDFs, by-laws).
• Conduct site inspections, consolidate comments from other departments and recommend approval or rejection of proposals.
• Liaise with environmental consultants, applicants and the competent authority.
• Manage the function to meet organisational demands, ensure proper financial management within the division and implement council resolutions on risk.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate.
• Degree in Natural Sciences, Life Sciences or Environmental Management at NQF Level 7, or a Higher Education and Training first degree / advanced diploma.
• Valid driver's licence.
• 3 years' experience in a similar environment.
