Procurement Team Leader

About the role

The Procurement Team Leader will head the procurement function, ensuring effective sourcing, purchasing and supply of materials, equipment and services required by the business. The role is responsible for supplier management, cost control, inventory optimisation and mentoring buyers within the department.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and execute procurement activities for production, maintenance and operational needs.
• Source competitive suppliers and negotiate pricing, delivery terms and contracts.
• Ensure procurement actions align with company policies and budget targets.
• Drive cost‑saving initiatives and continuous improvement across the supply chain.
• Monitor market trends, pricing movements and supplier performance.
• Perform supplier market analysis, quick industrial assessments and market price benchmarking.
• Formulate and implement commodity purchasing strategies.
• Process purchases through RFQ/RFP/ITT, evaluate quotations and issue purchase orders.
• Expedite delivery, negotiate long‑term contracts and pursue alternative sources.
• Measure and manage supplier performance, ensuring compliance with BBBEE targets and company standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading a procurement or purchasing team.
• Strong knowledge of supplier management, cost control and inventory optimisation.
• Ability to mentor and develop buyers and procurement staff.
• Track record of delivering cost‑saving projects and continuous improvement.
• Familiarity with market analysis, commodity strategy and compliance requirements such as BBBEE.
