SHEQ Manager

About the role

Macsteel is seeking a SHEQ Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership across the Group's Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality functions. The full-time position is based in Boksburg, Gauteng, and covers compliance with legislation, regulations and company standards, SHEQ management systems, risk management, audits, incident management and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain SHEQ policies, procedures, standards, management systems and compliance frameworks aligned with legislation and regulations.
• Oversee occupational health and safety requirements, risk controls, occupational health and wellness processes, and corrective and preventative actions from incidents, audits and inspections.
• Support incident investigations, ensure incidents are recorded, investigated and reported, and monitor corrective and preventative actions.
• Run the annual SHEQ audit programme, oversee internal and external audits and close corrective actions within agreed timelines.
• Identify and assess SHEQ risks, maintain risk registers and ensure mitigation actions are implemented and escalated where needed.
• Monitor quality and environmental compliance, manage non-conformances and support environmental and sustainability initiatives.
• Develop SHEQ communication and awareness programmes, coordinate sessions and identify training needs with Human Capital.
• Advise management and stakeholders, prepare SHEQ reports and present key risks, trends, audit findings and incidents.
• Lead and manage the SHEQ team, set objectives and performance expectations and promote a collaborative, accountable culture.
• Drive continuous improvement of SHEQ standards, systems and processes.

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate (essential).
• NQF Level 7 / 3-year degree or advanced diploma in a relevant discipline such as Safety Management, Environmental Management, Engineering, Operations Management or Quality Management (essential).
• Minimum 8 years' relevant experience in SHEQ, Safety, Environmental, Quality, Operations or a related environment.
• Proven management experience with responsibility for people, compliance and functional delivery.
• Experience in manufacturing, engineering or heavy industry is advantageous.
