Ports and Coastal Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Ports and Coastal Engineer to join Zutari’s infrastructure practice. The role involves delivering innovative, digitally‑enabled solutions for ports, harbours and coastal infrastructure across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to construction supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Create conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs for ports and coastal projects.
• Perform complex engineering calculations, analyses and numerical modelling for planning, design and implementation phases.
• Prepare project specifications, Bills of Quantities, cost estimates and tender documentation.
• Produce technical reports and ensure compliance with relevant codes of practice and Zutari’s quality procedures.
• Provide ad‑hoc construction supervision and support as required.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary stakeholders including environmental consultants, municipalities, architects, developers and other engineering disciplines.

Required profile

• BSc/BEng/BTech in Civil Engineering; postgraduate qualification in Port & Coastal Engineering is advantageous.
• Evidence of progress toward professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
• Minimum three years of experience in ports or coastal engineering, with structural analysis experience considered a plus.
• Familiarity with international marine and coastal design codes and standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Autodesk Civil3D, Revit and Navisworks.
• Strong competence with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Experience with numerical modelling tools for coastal environments.
• Ability to conduct structural analysis and design.
