Plant Engineer – Mechanical (FMCG)

About the role

An established FMCG manufacturing operation seeks a practical, solutions‑driven Mechanical Engineer to own plant reliability, maintenance strategy, equipment performance and engineering improvement projects. The role is hands‑on, ideal for engineers who enjoy working on the factory floor, solving technical problems and leading maintenance teams to achieve world‑class operational performance.

Key responsibilities

• Drive plant reliability through planned, preventive and predictive maintenance programmes.
• Lead fault‑finding, root‑cause analysis and equipment performance improvement initiatives.
• Manage mechanical maintenance activities to minimise downtime and maximise production output.
• Develop and execute CAPEX and major maintenance projects.
• Oversee contractors and suppliers, ensuring quality, safety and project compliance.
• Manage maintenance budgets, spare‑parts strategies and asset lifecycle planning.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety and statutory engineering requirements.

Required profile

• BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in an FMCG or high‑speed manufacturing environment.
• Strong background in maintenance, plant engineering and project management.
• Experience with rotating equipment, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes and manufacturing machinery.
• Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems.
