Plant Engineer

About the role

PepsiCo South Africa is seeking a Plant Engineer to lead the engineering team responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of plant equipment and manufacturing processes. This role supports strategic goals to optimise production capacity, minimise downtime, and drive sustainable growth across our beverage and convenient foods portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee preventive maintenance programmes to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.
• Supervise a team of direct reports, managing day‑to‑day tasks, safety compliance and performance.
• Act as the primary point of contact for maintenance‑related issues, communicating promptly with stakeholders.
• Create, track and close maintenance work orders, ensuring thorough documentation of activities, materials and labour.
• Monitor and manage inventory levels of spare parts, tools and supplies to support routine and emergency repairs.
• Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialised repairs, services and equipment procurement while enforcing company policies and safety standards.
• Assist in managing capital budgets and support continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading an engineering or maintenance team in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of preventive maintenance strategies and work‑order management.
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
• Experience managing inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies.
• Capability to oversee budgetary responsibilities and drive improvement projects.
