Pharmacist Assistant

About the role

The Pharmacist Assistant will work within a pharmaceutical warehouse environment, supporting the pharmacist and warehouse team with receiving, storage, stock control, picking, packing and distribution of pharmaceutical products. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring medicines and pharmaceutical products are handled, stored and distributed safely and in accordance with pharmacy legislation, company SOPs, Good Pharmacy Practice, Good Distribution Practice and Good Warehousing Practice.

Key responsibilities

• Receive pharmaceutical stock from suppliers and verify deliveries against purchase orders and supporting documentation.
• Inspect incoming stock for accuracy, quantity, damage, batch numbers and expiry dates.
• Store medicines and pharmaceutical products according to prescribed storage requirements and maintain appropriate temperature and cold‑chain conditions.
• Pick, pack and issue pharmaceutical products against authorised orders, applying FIFO and FEFO principles.
• Monitor batch numbers, expiry dates and stock levels, conducting regular stock counts and investigations of discrepancies.
• Prepare pharmaceutical orders accurately for distribution to pharmacies, clinics and healthcare facilities.
• Maintain accurate stock records, delivery notes, temperature records and other required warehouse documentation.
• Assist with maintaining a clean, organised and safe warehouse environment and support the pharmacist or warehouse supervisor with reports, audits and general administration.

Required profile

• Recognised Pharmacist Assistant qualification and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• Fully computer literate, with knowledge of Syspro and Allegra considered an advantage.
• Previous experience in a pharmaceutical warehouse, distribution centre or pharmacy environment is advantageous.
• Good understanding of Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under high pressure with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
