People & Culture Officer

About the role

The People & Culture Officer will support the full employee lifecycle, ensuring smooth HR administration, recruitment, onboarding, payroll assistance and compliance with South African labour laws. The role works closely with the Head of People & Culture to deliver high‑quality service to both staff and management.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate employee records, both digital and physical, ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
• Provide administrative support to the Head of People & Culture, including report preparation, meeting coordination and project tracking.
• Support payroll processes by keeping employee data up‑to‑date and conducting regular HR/payroll audits.
• Ensure adherence to South African labour legislation, Employment Equity, Skills Development and BBBEE requirements.
• Manage end‑to‑end recruitment, from job advertising to offer issuance, and coordinate comprehensive onboarding and probation monitoring.
• Coordinate internal and external training programmes, maintain training databases and support statutory training reporting.
• Assist in developing HR policies, SOPs and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience as an HR Generalist or People & Culture professional.
• Working knowledge of South African labour legislation.
• Experience with HRIS systems, preferably Sage 300 People.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal abilities.
