Operations Lead - Zambia Fleet and Border Operations

About the role

Alistair Group, a fast-growing East and Southern African logistics provider covering road freight, material handling equipment rental, storage and warehousing and customs clearance, is hiring an Operations Lead for its Zambia operations. Reporting to the Head of Operations, the role acts as the single point of contact for Zambia-based fleet and border operations and leads the Zambian operations team.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with the ALZ Senior Fleet Managers, Regional Ops Leads, Border Teams, Driver Management and HSSEQ to ensure trips run smoothly and turn around.
• Manage daily engagement with local authorities (ZRA, RTSA, Police) and ensure permits, licences and regulatory documentation are compliant.
• Provide daily truck progress updates to clients and handle operational-level client complaints and feedback.
• Lead the Zambian Ops team, monitor staff performance and support local recruitment and onboarding.
• Track delays, analyse trip data and identify inefficiencies; submit weekly and monthly operational reports.
• Take first-line responsibility for incidents such as theft, breakdowns and accidents and escalate major issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent vocational/logistics experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in regional or cross-border logistics operations.
• Familiarity with customs procedures, border agency coordination and trip management.
• Experience managing operational teams across departments such as fleet, clearing and driver management.

Required skills

• Proficiency in transport management systems or other operational systems.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Understanding of compliance, licensing and border procedures.
• Financial stewardship including float management, fuel controls and cost awareness.
