Operations Engineer (Mining & Plant)

About the role

The Operations Engineer will ensure safe, healthy, and efficient operation of mining and plant equipment. Reporting to the Engineering department, the role combines technical expertise with strategic project delivery to meet production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Provide input to planning and execute approved plans to achieve production goals.
• Perform equipment maintenance according to standards and specifications.
• Maintain zero harm to employees and the environment by complying with legal and SHE regulations.
• Ensure equipment availability and efficient management for production targets.
• Deliver projects that enable future growth and meet production objectives.
• Implement financial management processes, including IRR assessments.
• Manage people effectively, supporting development and inclusive practices.
• Apply engineering expertise to conduct design checks and specify equipment quality and safety criteria.
• Identify and recommend waste‑elimination, productivity‑improvement, and cost‑reduction initiatives.
• Advise management on business improvement initiatives and maintain healthy internal and external relationships.
• Participate in safety meetings, conduct inspections, and report hazards.

Required profile

• Grade 12/NQF 4 or higher; Engineering degree (NQF 7) or equivalent.
• GCC Certificate (Mine & Works) and registration as a professional certificated engineer.
• 4‑6 years operational experience in mining or plant environments.
• 2‑3 years project management experience.
• Competence in electrical or mechanical engineering theory, structural, civil, and instrumentation knowledge.
• Understanding of general management, financial methodologies (e.g., IRR), and strategic operations management.
