Occupational Therapist – Rehabilitation Unit

About the role

We are seeking an Occupational Therapist to join the acute Rehabilitation Unit at Life Riverfield Lodge in Gauteng. The role involves delivering comprehensive OT services to in‑patients with a range of conditions, working within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide occupational therapy clinical services to all patients, including weekends and public holidays.
• Conduct assessments, develop treatment programmes and deliver therapy for neurological (e.g., TBI, CVA, SCI), orthopaedic and multi‑morbidity conditions.
• Assess seating needs and recommend appropriate assistive devices.
• Explore return‑to‑work options and reasonable accommodation requirements.
• Participate in the spasticity management programme.
• Perform home visits when required to ensure safe discharge destinations.
• Educate patients and families about conditions and treatment plans.
• Contribute to discharge planning, carer training and weekly team/family meetings.
• Maintain accurate and timely records and respond to queries.
• Supervise and train university students as needed.

Required profile

• BSc degree in Occupational Therapy with current HPCSA registration.
• Experience in hospital‑based, multidisciplinary rehabilitation.
• Interest in treating adults with neurological disorders; NDT training is an advantage.
• Basic to intermediate skills in seating and spasticity management are advantageous.
• Commitment to quality patient care, patient advocacy and professional ethics.
