Occupational Hygiene Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Hygiene Manager to lead the hygiene and ventilation team for a major mining operation in the North West. The successful candidate will ensure a safe, healthy environment for underground workers by overseeing ventilation, refrigeration and occupational hygiene programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the occupational hygiene and ventilation department on a deep‑level mine.
• Design, optimise and maintain complex ventilation and refrigeration systems.
• Ensure compliance with mine environmental control standards and MVSSA regulations.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team, providing technical guidance and performance monitoring.
• Develop and implement health and safety policies related to air quality and thermal conditions.

Required profile

• Chamber of Mines Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental Control.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Management or Management Development Programme.
• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Hygiene, Mining or Engineering.
• Membership of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa (MVSSA).
• Minimum ten years’ experience in ventilation and occupational hygiene on a shaft.
