Nursing Assistant (Maternity/Neonatal) – Grade 1-3, 2 positions

About the role

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking two Nursing Assistants for maternity and neonatal care at Wesfleur Hospital. The role involves providing basic nursing care and supporting patients with daily activities across all departments as needed.

Key responsibilities

• Provision of basic nursing care by assisting patients with activities of daily living.
• Implementation of basic nursing care plans and effective communication with the care team.
• Effective utilisation of resources and promotion of quality assurance, infection prevention and control, and occupational health and safety.
• Maintain professional practice, ethical conduct and continuous self‑development.

Required profile

• Qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nursing Assistant.
• Registration with SANC as a Nursing Assistant.
• Grade‑specific experience: none for Grade 1, at least 10 years for Grade 2, and at least 20 years for Grade 3 after registration.
• Willingness to work shifts, public holidays, after‑hours, night duty, weekends and overtime as required.
• Ability to work under pressure and assist in all departments according to operational needs.

Required skills

• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
• Knowledge of basic nursing care principles and procedures.
• Familiarity with relevant health legislation and Department of Health policies.
• Effective verbal and written communication within a multidisciplinary team.

What we offer

• Grade 1 salary: R181 230 per annum.
• Grade 2 salary: R211 401 per annum.
• Grade 3 salary: R249 141 per annum.
