Municipal Traffic Court Prosecutor (Fixed‑term)

About the role

The Municipal Traffic Court Prosecutor provides court agency services for the Beaufort West Municipality, ensuring fair and efficient adjudication of traffic and municipal by‑law cases. The role supports the National Prosecution Authority and the Department of Justice to reduce backlogs in the criminal justice system.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate administrative and reporting requirements linked to key performance indicators of the municipal court.
• Prepare detailed reports on case outcomes, awards and judgments for submission to the Municipal Manager and Council.
• Draft agreements, policies and conduct legal research, applying relevant legislation and case law.
• Maintain a comprehensive database of case files, contracts, litigation and court orders, and retrieve information on request.
• Assist the clerk of court in preparing court rolls and represent the municipality in traffic and municipal related cases.

Required profile

• LLB degree.
• In‑depth knowledge of local government legislation, policies and criminal law.
• At least 12 months of relevant experience.

Required skills

• Computer literacy (MS Office applications).
• Proficiency in using MS Office.
