Municipal Manager – Fixed‑term (Beaufort West)

About the role

The Municipality of Beaufort West is seeking a Municipal Manager on a fixed‑term, performance‑based contract of up to one year. The role serves as the Accounting Officer and Head of Administration, providing strategic leadership to achieve the municipality’s mandate and ensure effective service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the municipality’s administration in line with the MFMA, Constitution and relevant local government legislation.
• Develop and monitor the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and ensure its implementation.
• Oversee financial management, budgeting, audit and risk management to ensure compliance and sound governance.
• Manage all internal municipal departments to deliver efficient, accountable services.
• Provide strategic advice and support to the Executive Mayor and council political structures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Sciences, Law or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification (minimum 360 credits).
• At least five years of senior‑management experience with a record of successful institutional transformation.
• Completion of prescribed municipal competency unit standards or willingness to complete them within 18 months of appointment.
• Advanced knowledge of relevant policy, legislation, governance systems and council operations.

What we offer

• Competitive remuneration ranging from R1 061 682 to R1 305 078 per annum.
• Additional 7 % rural allowance.
