MQ System Programmer (System Engineer)

About the role

We are looking for an MQ System Programmer to join FNB’s talent team. In this role you will support and maintain IBM MQ environments across mainframe and Linux platforms, ensuring reliable messaging for multiple development, test and production systems.

Key responsibilities

• Set up monitoring and alerting to detect delays or issues in MQ queues.
• Log and manage change orders, incidents and service requests in ServiceNow.
• Maintain and update system documentation and operational procedures.
• Provide operational support to keep MQ environments stable and available.
• Assist application developers with MQ configuration to meet their requirements.
• Support off‑host MQ client installations and channel configurations.
• Collaborate with mainframe and MQ teams to share knowledge and improve processes.

Required profile

• Experience as a mainframe SYSPROG and/or MQ SYSPROG.
• Deep understanding of IBM MQ queue manager architecture on both distributed and z/OS platforms.
• Familiarity with mainframe operational processes, scheduling and change management.
• Hands‑on experience with TSO, ISPF, JCL and optionally Cobol, REXX or Assembler.
• Experience administering IBM MQ on Linux, including installation, configuration, performance tuning and HA/DR setups.
• Matriculation minimum and relevant mainframe competency badges.
