Monthly Accountant

About the role

The Monthly Accountant will serve as the primary contact for a portfolio of monthly clients, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of management accounts, VAT and payroll submissions. This client‑facing role combines technical accounting expertise with professional communication to meet statutory obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts for each client, reconciling balance‑sheet accounts and delivering signed‑off trial balances.
• Maintain client accounting records in Xero, Pastel, Eureka or the applicable system.
• Submit monthly VAT returns via SARS e‑Filing and prepare payroll reports, ensuring correct PAYE, UIF and SDL calculations.
• Reconcile VAT and payroll control accounts, flagging disputes or penalties to the Tax department.
• Coordinate annual compliance obligations, including financial statements, income tax returns, CIPC filings, BO register, ROE, dividends tax and donations tax where applicable.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent; B.Com Honours in Accounting or postgraduate qualification preferred.
• CA (SA) or equivalent designation is a strong advantage.
• Minimum 1 year of practical accounting experience, preferably in a client‑facing professional services environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one accounting software: Xero, Pastel or Eureka.
• Experience with SARS e‑Filing for VAT submissions.
• Working knowledge of VAT Act, PAYE, UIF, SDL and CIPC compliance requirements.
