About the role
The Meter Reader is responsible for accurately reading electricity meters, handling safe disconnections and reconnections, and maintaining strong customer relationships while operating a vehicle across the service area.
Key responsibilities
- Read electricity meters and enter data using handheld terminals or cards.
- Disconnect and reconnect "safe" electricity supplies.
- Report suspended or misappropriated electricity.
- Promote and maintain effective customer relations.
- Drive a vehicle to perform meter reads and safe reconnections/disconnections.
- Complete daily log sheets recording vehicle movement.
- Wash and clean the meter‑reading vehicle and resolve access problems.
- Identify and report meter placement and sequencing issues.
- Report broken or missing meter room doors and locks.
- Access computer systems for meter‑reading information and download vehicle monitoring data.
Required profile
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
- Valid motor vehicle driving licence.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Computer literacy.
