Medical Writer – Publications (Remote, South Africa)

About the role

We are seeking a Medical Writer to join our remote team in South Africa, supporting a portfolio of leading pharma clients in rare disease and oncology. Reporting to a Senior or Principal Medical Writer, you will develop high‑quality medical content for conferences, advisory boards and interactive platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Produce and edit written materials in line with client requirements, timelines and ABPI Code of Practice.
• Ensure all deliverables are appropriately pitched, fully referenced and delivered on time.
• Attend conferences and advisory board meetings, drafting first‑version reports for review.
• Coordinate with the Open Health Medical Communications team and keep line managers updated on project progress.
• Research therapeutic areas, develop understanding of client brands and disease areas, and liaise with authors and advisors.

Required profile

• Experience as an Associate Medical Writer or Medical Writer in a med‑comms, healthcare agency or pharmaceutical environment.
• Strong understanding of science, medicine and the medical communications industry.
• Excellent project‑management, analytical and financial acumen.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
• Sound knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice.
