Medical Trainer – Pharmaceutical (Johannesburg)

About the role
The Medical Trainer will design, develop and deliver scientific and therapeutic training for internal sales and account teams on prescription medicines. The role ensures that all customer‑facing staff have accurate, up‑to‑date, and compliant medical knowledge to support effective engagement with healthcare professionals.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop and deliver blended learning programmes (classroom, e‑learning, workshops, role‑plays, case studies) covering disease areas, pharmacology, product knowledge and competitor landscape.
- Conduct onboarding sessions for new hires and organise refresher or advanced modules aligned with product lifecycle and market dynamics.
- Translate complex clinical data and trial outcomes into practical field‑relevant content while maintaining current knowledge of guidelines, literature and regulatory updates.
- Ensure all training complies with SAHPRA, FDA, EMA and ICH‑GCP standards and train sales teams on pharmacovigilance, adverse event reporting and ethical promotion.
- Develop assessments, certification tests and competency sign‑off processes; monitor effectiveness through KPIs, feedback and field performance.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Regulatory, Sales Leadership, Medical Advisors and BI/Insights to align training with business strategy and market trends.
- Continuously improve programmes by incorporating digital modules, simulations, gamification and benchmarking against best practices.
Required profile
- Registered Pharmacist (BPharm or MPharm) with an active licence.
- Demonstrated experience in medical or pharmaceutical training, preferably within a commercial environment.
- Strong understanding of therapeutic areas such as CNS, CVS, respiratory, oncology and related clinical guidelines.
- Excellent knowledge of local and international regulatory requirements (SAHPRA, FDA, EMA, ICH‑GCP).
Required skills
- Pharmacovigilance knowledge.
- Ability to translate clinical data into training material.
- Experience with blended learning delivery methods.
