Medical Receptionist – Obstetrics & Gynaecology Practice

About the role

The specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology practice in Bedford Gardens, Johannesburg is looking for an experienced Medical Receptionist. You will be the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a compassionate and professional front‑office experience while supporting the practice’s administrative and billing functions.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome patients, manage appointment scheduling, diary coordination and patient follow‑ups.
• Register new patients, verify demographics, medical aid details and required documentation.
• Handle incoming calls, emails and enquiries with professionalism.
• Prepare patient files, referrals, clinical documentation and process referrals to hospitals, specialists, radiology and pathology.
• Capture consultation and procedure codes, submit medical aid claims and obtain authorisations.
• Process patient payments, assist with billing and follow up on rejected claims.
• Coordinate theatre bookings, admissions and Caesarean section schedules.
• Maintain reception area, office supplies and patient educational material while ensuring confidentiality and POPIA compliance.

Required profile

• Matric / Grade 12 with at least 3 years’ experience as a Medical Receptionist.
• Previous experience in an Obstetrics and Gynaecology practice is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD‑10 and CPT coding.
• Proficiency with GoodX or similar medical practice management software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
