Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor for a busy FMCG manufacturing plant in Cape Town. The role combines on‑site mechanical fault‑finding, supporting electricians, and leading a maintenance team to ensure equipment reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support the maintenance team during daily operations
• Carry out hands‑on mechanical maintenance and repairs
• Assist with mechanical and electrical fault‑finding on production equipment
• Support electricians during complex breakdowns
• Allocate work and guide maintenance staff
• Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are completed
• Improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime
• Ensure work is completed safely and according to company standards
• Liaise with production regarding maintenance priorities
• Mentor junior artisans and apprentices where applicable
• Maintain accurate maintenance records

Required profile

• Trade Tested Fitter or Millwright qualification
• Minimum 8 years’ maintenance experience in FMCG, food manufacturing or fast‑paced production
• Previous supervisory or team‑lead experience
• Strong mechanical fault‑finding and repair ability
• Good practical understanding of electrical fault‑finding
• Ability to assist electricians during breakdowns
• Experience with conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, motors, bearings, pneumatics, hydraulics and production machinery
• Ability to prioritize breakdowns and coordinate maintenance activities
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
• Good communication and leadership skills
• Computer literacy
• Willingness to work overtime and be on‑call for breakdown support
• Valid driver’s licence
