Mechanical Fitter/Engineer Workshop Foreman

About the role

The Mechanical Fitter/Engineer Workshop Foreman will lead the electrical workshop in Gauteng, supervising a team of electricians, technicians and apprentices. The role focuses on the diagnosis, repair and testing of AC/DC motors, generators, transformers and control systems while ensuring safety and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily workshop activities, assign tasks and mentor staff.
• Plan and organise repair workflows to meet turnaround targets.
• Conduct final inspections and functional tests on repaired equipment.
• Maintain inventory of critical spares, consumables and tools.
• Oversee motor and generator overhauls, including rewinding and bearing replacement.
• Coordinate installation of AC/DC distribution panels and switchgear.
• Interpret and produce electrical wiring diagrams, control schematics and blueprints.
• Enforce Lockout/Tagout procedures and conduct toolbox talks.

Required profile

• Recognised Electrical/Mechanical trade qualification (e.g., NQF Level 4 or Red Seal).
• Minimum 5 years hands‑on experience in electromechanical maintenance and workshop leadership.
• Proven ability to manage a technical team and ensure quality standards.

Required skills

• Multimeter operation and insulation testing (Megger).
• Surge testing and AC/DC system diagnostics.
• Motor and generator overhaul techniques.
• Electrical wiring diagram and control schematic interpretation.
• Lockout/Tagout safety procedures.
