Mechanical Engineer – Mid-level – Durbanville, Cape Town

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer position is a mid‑level role based in Durbanville, Cape Town, focused on in‑house design and development of capital drilling equipment. You will work closely with customers, suppliers, field service engineers and internal teams to deliver reliable mechanical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and development projects from concept to delivery, including strength calculations, FEA/simulation and 3D CAD modelling.
• Create manufacturing data packs such as BOMs, quality control plans, work instructions and manuals.
• Supervise junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards and company safety policies.
• Prepare detailed progress reports and inspection reviews for management and customers.

Required profile

• 3–6 years of experience in a comparable mechanical engineering environment.
• BSc Eng or BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Excellent organisational, planning and time‑management abilities.
• Good understanding of fabrication, boiler making/welding and precision machining.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (3D CAD modelling).
• SolidWorks Simulation or Abaqus (FEA).
• Mathcad, MATLAB or similar engineering calculation tools.
• Microsoft Office suite – Word, Excel, Teams.
