Mechanical Engineer – Durbanville, Cape Town

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer will work on capital drilling equipment, delivering in‑house design, engineering analysis and project management. You will collaborate with customers, suppliers and field service teams while supervising junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multiple design projects from concept to delivery, ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards.
• Perform strength calculations, finite‑element analysis and 3D CAD modelling using SolidWorks and simulation tools.
• Produce manufacturing data packs – BOMs, quality control plans, work instructions and manuals.
• Monitor adherence to applicable codes (ASME VIII, API, ABS, DNV) and initiate corrective actions when needed.
• Prepare detailed progress reports and inspection reviews for management and customers.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance.

Required profile

• 3‑6 years of experience in a mechanical engineering environment.
• BSc Eng or BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Good understanding of fabrication, boiler making/welding and precision machining.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (3D CAD modelling and drawing).
• SolidWorks Simulation or Abaqus (FEA).
• Mathcad, MATLAB or similar calculation software.
• MS Office suite – Word, Excel, Teams.
• Knowledge of ASME VIII, API, ABS and DNV design rules.
