Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading global engineering organisation in the mining and minerals processing sector. The role is ideal for a professional with 3‑5 years of post‑graduate design experience who enjoys creating innovative solutions for heavy‑industrial equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and equipment for mining and mineral processing applications.
• Create detailed engineering drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
• Perform engineering calculations, design verification, and technical analysis.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, projects, and operations teams to ensure designs are practical, cost‑effective, and manufacturable.
• Support product improvement initiatives and conduct root‑cause investigations.
• Participate in prototype development, testing, and product validation.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, quality requirements, and customer specifications.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and engineering change notices.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of mechanical design experience.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication abilities.
• Experience in mining, mineral processing, heavy industrial equipment, or related sectors is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, Siemens NX or similar 3D CAD software.
• Understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly.
• Ability to interpret and create detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
