Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services

About the role

A leading multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Building Services team in Gauteng. You will design and coordinate mechanical building systems for a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential, healthcare, hospitality, mixed‑use, industrial and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design HVAC, ventilation, air‑conditioning and related mechanical services for various project types.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, calculations, schedules and construction documentation.
• Coordinate designs with electrical, wet services, fire protection, structural, civil and architectural disciplines.
• Conduct site inspections, attend client meetings and ensure compliance with South African and international standards.
• Support project planning, budgeting and programme management, emphasizing sustainable and energy‑efficient solutions.
• Review drawings and BIM models produced by drafting teams and mentor junior engineers where needed.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–10 years of experience in a consulting engineering environment.
• Proven experience in mechanical building services and strong HVAC design background.
• Knowledge of local building regulations and engineering standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
