Marine Pilot

About the role

The Marine Pilot provides expert navigational advice and, when authorised, conducts the safe manoeuvring of vessels within pilotage waters and port limits. This role ensures the protection of ships, crew, cargo and the environment while supporting efficient docking, undocking and vessel shifting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide accurate, timely navigational guidance to vessel masters to prevent collisions, grounding and other hazards.
• Conduct vessel navigation and manoeuvring in pilotage waters and within port limits, including docking, undocking and shifting operations.
• Maintain operational contingency plans and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Attend safety meetings, after‑hours duties and report incidents, accidents and performance metrics.
• Manage assets such as tugs, complete required reports and uphold ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS standards.
• Deliver professional ship‑handling expertise and local knowledge to enhance customer satisfaction.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience as a Marine Pilot.
• STCW Class 3 (or equivalent) certification.
• At least 12 months sea‑going experience on foreign vessels and 12 months tug‑handling experience.
• Strong knowledge of shift systems, scheduling, applicable maritime legislation and safety management systems.
• Familiarity with MARPOL, IMDG code, Merchant Shipping Act and SAMSA regulations.
