Maintenance Technician – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing & Laboratory

About the role

Our client, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing organisation, is looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician to join their technical team. You will be responsible for keeping laboratory and manufacturing‑support equipment running safely, reliably and efficiently in a GMP‑regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance on laboratory and manufacturing‑support equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and basic instrumentation faults.
• Maintain equipment such as autoclaves, ovens, incubators, refrigerators, freezers, pumps, compressors and other critical laboratory assets.
• Conduct routine inspections, identify potential failures and assist with equipment installation, commissioning, qualification and validation.
• Support HVAC, compressed‑air, water and other critical facility systems.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports and equipment histories in a CMMS.
• Investigate equipment failures, deviations and recurring breakdowns while adhering to GMP, SOPs and safety standards.
• Liaise with external contractors and specialist service providers as needed.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric or relevant technical qualification (N6, National Diploma, Trade Certificate) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Instrumentation or related field.
• 2–5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical‑device, food manufacturing or other GMP‑regulated environment.
• Good understanding of preventative and corrective maintenance practices.
• Computer literacy; experience with a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is advantageous.
